Trap Shooting

July 21, 2009 by aisg

Trap Shooting is open to new or experienced trap shooters! We will meet at 6 pm on Wednesday July 29th at the Fairbanks Trap Club. The club is on the corner of Hagelbarger and the Old Steese. Take the Steese Highway from town and take a left at the Hagelbarger / Steese intersection. Follow Hagelbarger to the end and take a right at the intersection. Take an immediate right into the trap club.

Competitors will be shooting from the 16 yard line, 5 people per squad. New shooters who are not club members will sign the waiver and receive a short safety briefing and instruction on trap shooting. There are 5 shots at each of the 5 posts for a total of 25. If possible, bring your own 12 gauge or 20 gauge shotgun. There are a couple of loaner guns available. You may purchase ammo from the club if you don’t bring your own. Trap is a fun sport for all ages and we have shooters aged pre-teen to 80’s who regularly come out and shoot. Please come join us! For more information contact Trish Yocum at 488-2667.

Golf Update

July 17, 2009 by aisg

No handicap necessary, participants are grouped by age. All levels of skill are welcome.
Participants play each of the three area golf courses. The green fees are included in your registration fee. Snacks and drinks are provided each morning and there is a lunch following the final round. A group photo is taken prior to the final round, which is a shotgun start.

In 2007 Diane Lewis shot a hole in one at North Star Golf Club’s hole number 3 during the AISG tournament.

This is a fun tournament, much like a good round of golf with friends. If you have questions, give Pat DeRyter a call at 479-7853 or email at patd@acsalaska.net

Opening Ceremony has moved

July 5, 2009 by aisg

Our 2009 Alaska International Senior Games Opening Ceremony will now be held at the Big Dipper Ice Arena. That is located at 1920 Lathrop Street in Fairbanks.  It will be on Friday, July 24th at 6:00 pm. Unfortunately we are unable to use the Birch Hill Ski Center where we were looking forward to a demonstration of Frisbee Golf; maybe next year.

The dinner will be served upstairs along the north mezzanine with the buffet in the conference room. We will have a Baggo game set up for everyone to try. It is going to be featured as the Bean Bag Toss in the Novelty Games earlier in the day.

Be sure to sign up to come to this affair. There will be drawings for $50 cash prizes to a name picked from the Early Birds who are everyone who is signed up for the Games by Friday July 10th and also from everyone who is mentioned on the Registration/Entry Form as a Recruiter. This name is picked from everyone who ‘recruits’ a athlete who didn’t participate last year. This player must write the recruiter’s name in the box on their form. There are sure to be exciting door prizes for all who attend.

5K Road Race from Jane Lanford

July 5, 2009 by aisg

The 2009 Alaska International Senior Games 5K road race will be held at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday evening, July 29, starting at Woodriver Elementary School.  The race route follows the Chena River Run course, winding through the University West area on residential streets and the bike path, over the Chena River bridge, and circling under the bridge to end at the Princess Hotel.  The course is paved and flat – except for the bridge, which gives a great view as you cross the river.  Please arrive at Woodriver school by 6 p.m. to sign in.  The event was moved from its originally scheduled weekend date so it wouldn’t conflict with other running events.  Runners and walkers are welcome!  Please join us!  For more information, contact Jane Lanford, race commissioner, at jane@usibelli.com or 687-0769.

Bowling from Charlotte Perotti

July 5, 2009 by aisg

Come bowl with us!

Bowling is contested on 3 days of the Alaska International Senior Games. The first day (July 28) is singles play.  Bowlers may choose either the 2 PM or the 6 PM squad or the bowler may bowl both but must pay the fees for both.  The second day (July 29) is doubles play.  These teams are either 2 men or 2 women.  If the bowler needs a partner, the commissioner of bowling will assist.  Again the bowler may bowl either shift or both.  The bowler may bowl with different partners each shift.  The teams are entered in the age bracket of the younger bowler, so any ages may bowl together.  The third day (July 30) is mixed doubles play.  These teams consist of 1 man and 1 woman.  The same rules apply as with the doubles on Wednesday.

This is not a sanctioned tournament so the bowlers do not need previous averages.  Arctic Bowl has house balls for use and rents bowling shoes for $2.50 a session.  Register for the Senior Games and just come and have fun with us. For more information contact the Commissioner, Charlotte Perotti, at 457-1332 or clp@mosquitonet.com.

Triathlon from Ed Callaghan

July 5, 2009 by aisg

The 2009 Triathlon for the Senior Games is a sprint distance triathlon consisting of a 400 yard swim in the Patty Center indoor pool at UAF, immediately followed by a 20k cycling road race, and concluding with a 5K running race, both beginning and ending outside the Patty Center.  Times will be measured from start of the swim to the conclusion of the running race without interruption.  This means that transition times between events are included in the total time, so plan accordingly.  Bike helmets are mandatory and no swimming aids are allowed. Teams of two or three individuals completing individual portions of the race will be allowed to compete unofficially. For more information contact the Commissioner, Ed Callaghan at echa@ptialaska.net or 479-4917.
